Scansoft Pdf Create Kernel Mode Print Driver
An error Kernel Mode Printer blocking policy is enabled. The attempt for ScanSoft PDF Create. to use a Kernel Mode PDF Create 3 uses a kernel mode driver.
Well, the advice is only partially correct.
Paperport 9 can be installed and run in Windows 7, but not the PDF printer drivers used by Paperport 9.
To install Paperport 9, I inserted my CD and then using Right click - Properties - Compatibility option for every executable file ending in. exe I marked them
Compatibility mode:

I also turned off UAC which for me was very convoluted and I had to use the advice to edit the Registry settings regedit at:
Then Paperport 9 successfully installed and I was able to run it on my computer.
However, Paperport uses the Black Ice PDF driver, which for Paperport 9 was a kernel driver. Windows 7 would not allow these Black Ice PDF drivers for Paperport 9 to be installed no matter what I did and the newer Black Ice drivers for Windows 7 are 40.
The answer was to install other PDF drivers to use with Paperport 9. The free choices are PrimoPDF, PDFCreator, and CutePDF all available at CNET for download.
PrimoPDF and PDFCreator allow you to choose the format of PDF to use, and Paperport 9 is finicky about the version of PDF it likes version 1.4, compatible with Acrobat 5.x. I could not do this with CutePDF.
I haven t worked out how to print to exactly the same settings that the default Paperport PDF printer driver uses, so what I do instead is to duplicate any PDF file that I have created using PrimoPDF/PDFCreator/CutePDF as a. max Paperport Image Right-click
- Duplicate as Paperport Image and then save the. max Paperport Image again as a PDF file Save As - PDF. This saves it in the PDF format that Paperport likes, which can be stacked, read by the Optical Character Reader, used in FormTyper, or otherwise
manipulated in the usual Paperport manner.
It s an extra two steps, which I don t like, but it preserves full functionality of Paperport 9 in Windows 7.
