Performance

The tests Windows 8 antivirus software underwent are broken into two categories: zero-day, new threats and widespread, known threats. The industry-average detection rating of brand-new viruses is 97 percent. This means that third-party antivirus software is capable of catching most, and in some cases all, of these new and unknown viruses, which is amazing.

Defender, however, only averaged 73-percent detection, which is significantly lower than the industry standard. During the tests against widespread and known malware, third-party programs were capable of detecting 99 percent of all the viruses sent their way, while Defender was only capable of detecting 74 percent of these viruses. What this means is the very best virus protection for Windows 8 is found in the software we reviewed rather than Windows Defender. The ability to detect malware is the most important component for any antivirus program, so performance was highly weighted in our ranking process.

Another element to consider when looking for the best antimalware software is how impactful each program is on your computer. Every single program we considered for Windows 8 is capable of detecting spyware, worms, Trojans, rootkits and other types of malware. All of them are also capable of scanning incoming email and even instant messages for potential threats, both of which are major mediums of attack for virus bots and hackers. Additionally, every single program we considered can automatically clean infected files without any required action from you, as well as store infected files in a quarantine so that they do not infect your entire system. Although every program is capable of performing all of these functions, there are a number of defining factors for you to consider in order to find the right software for your needs.

For example, only a few antivirus programs for Windows 8 are capable of creating a rescue disk that allows you to reboot a computer that has crashed because of an infection. I expose each antivirus to a collection of malware samples, including a variety of different malware types, and note its reaction. I derive a malware blocking score from 0 to 10 points based on how thoroughly the antivirus protects the test system from these samples. Since I use the same samples month after month, the malware-blocking test definitely doesn t measure a product s ability to detect brand-new threats. In a separate test, I attempt to download malware from 100 very new malicious URLs supplied by MRG-Effitas, typically less than a day old. I note whether the antivirus blocked all access to the URL, wiped out the malicious payload during download, or did nothing. McAfee and Symantec, both paid products, hold the very best scores in this test, though some free antivirus utilities have done fairly well.

Useful Features

Just about every antivirus product scans files on access to make sure malware can t launch, and also scans the entire system on demand, or on a schedule you set. The one exception in the current collection is a tool aimed very specifically at detecting attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in the operating system or applications. In the latest report from AV-Test, Microsoft earned a decent 14 of 18 possible points, much better than its previous failing grade of 9.5 points. And Dennis Labs awarded Microsoft AAA certification, its highest rating.

There are also numerous free antivirus utilities that work solely to clean up existing malware infestations. You bring out these cleanup-only tools when you have a nasty malware infestation. When the problem s gone, they have no further use, since they offer no ongoing protection. Our Editors Choice in this category is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0, and it s definitely one you should try if you ve got a malware problem. But since they re free, you can keep trying others if the first one doesn t do the job. When the scare is over, you ll need a full-blown antivirus for ongoing protection.

Although Patch successfully made the jump later that day, the delay and bad weather caused the crowd to be disappointingly small. When Patch made a second jump a few days later, however, about 10,000 people showed up to watch.

Unfortunately, the daredevil died about a month later, during yet another jump.

Even so, Sam Patch and his trademarked slogan Some things can be done as well as others became so popular that when the city of Philadelphia gave President Andrew Jackson a white stallion in 1833, the president named him Sam Patch.

Sam Patch was one of the residents of the new brick White House stables Jackson had built during his presidency. His racehorse Truxton likely was another.

Why did Jackson have new stables built. After the British burned the White House in 1814, a temporary wood frame stable was constructed near the rebuilt East Wing. James Monroe moved the stables near the West Wing in 1819.

But when Jackson brought his collection of horses and racehorses to the White House, those stables were overflowing, so he asked Congress to approve construction of a freestanding brick stable trimmed with sandstone about 100 yards east of the East Wing, at a cost of about 3,600.

Editor s Note: During the course of our research for this presidential pet, we found that some sources claim that Sam Patch was Jackson s wartime mount War of 1812 and was brought with Jackson to the White House nearly two decades later. We spent quite a bit of time checking, and conclude that although Jackson might have had a white mount during the War of 1812, his horse named Sam Patch was actually given to him as a gift during his presidency most likely 1833, as noted in this newspaper article. En el caso de los de Avast y Avira son antivirus que se dan en versiones gratuitas para que se las pueda usar por un tiempo indefinido, la diferencia es que a diferencia de las versiones de paga los gratuitos ofrecidos no cuentan con todas las características de protección avanzada, por ejemplo pueden proteger contra virus que ya se encuentren en el computador pero no de todas las clases de virus, o bien pueden proteger y estar atentos a cualquier infección proveniente de un dispositivo extraíble pero no de una descarga que contenga algún archivo con código malicioso. En general todos los antivirus tienen buenas características que los hace únicos, lástima que no podemos colocar todos los antivirus juntos en nuestro ordenador, ya que esto consumiría muchos recursos de nuestra cpu, y recursos económicos en cuanto a licenciamiento de cada uno se refiere.

Al final de todo a mi experiencia y parecer los mejores antivirus se enumeran en el orden que se fueron explicando, siendo Kaspersky a mi parecer el mejor de todos, pero demanda muchos recursos de nuestro ordenador y su precio es bastante elevado. Por lo que una buena opción sería Nod32, en cuanto a precio y recursos del ordenador.

There is no Gigaware website containing support or drivers for your webcam that I can find. You would require product support from Radio Shack.

Also, I can only find mention of drivers up to and including XP which would be of zero value for Windows 7.

My advice to you is this. If you want/need a webcam, go out and buy a new one, and make sure that your choice is either Logitech or Microsoft. Both companies provide excellent support for products bearing their names.

The same can t be said of store brands. .

Does anyone know where to download a gigaware webcam driver

for windows 7.

I remember when I first got my computer but windows used a different

driver that worked with it.

I just can t remember the name of that driver

Note that Windows 7 already had a compatible driver of its own

under a different name that worked with the

gigaware webcam

but I can t remember the name of that driver

I got it working thanks guys anyway here s how I got it working

1. 1st You download Webcam Driver.

2. Radio Shack VGA PC Came Driver

3. After this install the Webcam driver in the system.

4. Installation of Webcam Driver

5. Go to the control panel

6. Click on the System Icon

7. Click on the Hardware Tab

8. Click on the Device Manager then

9. Select the Unknown Device or printer device where yellow Question Marks sign on it.

10. Right click on it and uninstall it.

11. After this go to the top of the device manager and click on scan for hardware changes.

12. Driver installation Wizard start.

13. Brows Your Driver from the Hard Disk and click on next.

I have a new computer with Windows 7 64bit installed on it.

After hooking it up, I connected my HP Deskjet 5440 to it using the USB cable.

Windows 7 recognized that I had an HP Deskjet 5400 series printer and said it was installing the device.

After a few minutes it returned the error: Device driver software was not successfully installed. The details say No driver found for the HPDeskjet 5400 series.The printer does not show up as an option when I try to print a document. The printer does show up in my Devices and Printers menu, but has a status Needs troubleshooting. The Windows troubleshooting simply repeats this process and then tells me the problems is Not fixed.

On the HP website there is no option to download a driver. It tells me to use the driver included in Windows 7 and gives steps to installing the printer. These steps get me to exact point I m already at - device is recognized but has no driver.

I have tried manually adding the printer but the 5440 or 5400 series are not listed as an option under HP printers. When I try using Windows Update to refresh the printer list I get the error: Windows was unable to get a list of devices from Windows Update.

What can I do to get the drivers for this printer for Windows 7 / 64bit.

Just wondering if anyone is still playing Rugby 08.

I am but finding it very boring after completing World League on Elite many times.

I have pretty much done everything there is to do with the game.

It really is very dated though. Its pretty much just 06 which is really 05.

So that means now in 2011 I am playing with squads form 2005.

So is anyone still playing and enjoying the game. :p

Its also a lot harder, as only the fast players have a higher speed than everyone else, for example, props are as fast as fly-halves, unless the fly-half has been speciffically designed to be fast

So much. :P I play it on the PS2 though so I can t get mods : I ve done everything on elite so I now play as Georgia and try and beat the top teams, it s actually challenging : I ve beaten Scotland, Ireland and Italy, keep getting thrashed by Argentina and England and I don t dare try to play France or any of the Tri-Nations :L

I was Leinster just the normal team that comes with the game with only a 3 players added D. Wallace FL , H. Ellis SH and J. Afoa PR.

I decided to see how much I could win by so did 20 min halfs on easy but I managed to score over 400 points. It wasnt particularily fun, I jst did ut to brag to friends. I think the exact score was 401 - 0 but I could be wrong.

Ye I lost in the final of the RWC playing as Georgia against SA beat Ireland,France,Argentina,Namibia,Italy and NZ along the way.I changed around the teams so I had the fastest Georgians starting though,but didnt make any players or anything.

That s an achievement :P Georgia have actually got some pretty decent players tbh, their back three is very good :P I just play hands and line break with the outside centre and pop it to the wing, works a decent amount of the time, and even if we don t score, we make some good ground, thing is, Georgia have awful forwards though : they can t ruck what so ever, so when ever we play a physical team I have to get my fly half to keep booting it into touch so that we can intercept the line out and do the same thing from there :L

TBH I just kick for territory most of the time and if you time your jump right you can easily steal ball.So thats hoe I find it easiest to win with lesser teams:

LOL I m playing it right now. I ve just started another season of Super 14. I enjoy it because I never owned a rugby game up until a month ago when all this excitement about RC and RWC 2011 made me buy 08 off ebay. I really enjoy all the teams and stadiums, its annoying how Super 14 only lasts one season and how Elite difficulty is very easy. Some platnium challenges are impossible so I stopped trying but I think for when it was made its an amazing game, only if it had online multiplayer.

I did that once on Rugby 06 but I tried to score with just Dan Carter. I managed over 400 points, I think.

I really prefered 06. I really felt 08 was just a bad update, with really little effort put into the players. I mean Lewis Moody was a centre on it.and Shane Geraghty was actually charlie hodgson

I agree about little time being put into the stats. Ryan kankowski had Speices stats and Gio Aplon played 8

Haha, I swear the Canadians at HB just saw a picture of 76kg Gio Aplon wearing a 8 jersey while playing sevens and assigned it as his position :D

Here are more things that annoyed me about the players:

- Quade Cooper looked Asian and had really useless stats

- Morne Steyn could barely punt the ball 50 metres

- Piri Weepu didn t play first-five, and due to the stupid positioning rules he dropped the ball 50 of the time if you chose to play him at 10

- Pierre Spies wasn t a superhuman athlete

- The Namibian backline was almost as slow as the All Blacks front row

- Dan Carter and Jonny Wilkinson had far higher Kicking Power stats than Francois Steyn

- Brian O Driscoll could run circles around the All Black backline- he was ridiculously fast

- Liam Messam was possibly the single worst NZ player in the game

These are just the things that came off the top of the head; I ll probably remember more later. They re also reasons why I m pretty stoked with the ability to edit players in Rugby Challenge, as it will fix up all of these problems : providing that outside backs are always faster than front rowers, regardless of team or nationality.

The hardest challenge was getting a drop goal with the Scrum Half. Was one of those very b ll challenges since the SH would only touch the ball in open play from a kick off return.

Still play it s the only rugby game i have but i can only last about two matches before getting bored, there s simply no challenge to it and the amount of exploits in it is just insane.

At the time Giteau was Austrailias kicker and star player, he was up with Carter. And McCaw did wear headgear. I dont believe Jason Robinson was over rated, the main problem was how anyone could change direction completely at full speed and how the other team followed the ball and lost structure.

Berrick Barnes had black hair and no headgear.

Even if you put your kicking stats to 99 everything, you can t kick the ball as far as Latham.

Quade Cooper was rated 61 or something, was asian and was a flanker.

I updated my squads by just creating all the players who had bad stats or were missing, had ps2 version so couldn t patch took a while but playing with old squads annoyed me. also annoyed me wallabies and springboks kits weren t tight fitting and the wallabies one was slightly the wrong colour and didnt have the white patchesalthough maybe it was just me that annoyed. also scotland and ireland had slightly the wrong colour kits and my team saracens had the wrong home kit and were overated for the time at 76. England were also rated too highly. but ratings didnt seem to matter when it came to the cpu playing their season.

Wow this turned into a diss session really quickly.

I enjoy the game - running in general play is really smooth and works. Doing anything else caused the game to become glaringly unrealistic. Also the AI was a bit of a joke.

For all it s flaws it was extremely playable - but it looked like a game that had about 5 of EA s attention maximum at any one time. Particularly since there d been no major overhaul since at least 05. But downloading rosters etc. still made it fun.

My claim to fame is winning the world cup with Japan - so nothing too special.

I ve never once been able to get it to let me pass to a teammate who is controlled by another player. generally i only pass it to the computer who then turns into my teammate but that sucks when my teammate is doing a good job of providing support because i can t pass it to him, ever
